Soldier Strongarm - Blue Squadron Leader / Weyrling - Bronze Tiberiuth

Real Name: Augustus Strongarm, but everyone calls him Soldier even his family.

Alias: Soldier Strongarm - Most people do not know that his real name is Augustus, only his parents and the higher officials of the Military. Because he likes being called Soldier, rather than his real name, he is not about to correct them and enlisted with the name Soldier Strongarm.

Description: Soldier is probably the tallest man currently alive on Pern. He stands at six feet and ten inches and weighs two hundred and twenty two pounds. He has a large body frame that has been trained for endurance and power, not necessarily for speed, but he is agile enough on his feet. He is muscular, with muscles visibly bulging on his arms and legs. His height is intimidating enough, but the scowl on his face adds to his threatening menace. Not that he would harm a fly, that's just how he is viewed by those who don't know him.

If you hadn't noticed, he is bald, not by heredity, but by choice. He just doesn't have time to worry about his hair, so he had opted to shave it all off. He has a slightly nubian nose but he has more of a snub nose than it is nubian in appearance. He has black eyes with a penetrating look under dark arched eyebrows. It is as if he can look at you and know what you are thinking. His ears are like extensions of his arms and are able to slightly move themselves, the better to hear his surroundings.

As mentioned earlier, Soldier is muscular. And despite that, Soldier is agile on his feet and has great hand-eye coordination. He may not be the fastest runner, but he sure is a sprinter, able to speed up his running in bursts of speed rather than running on a constant high speed velocity. He has lightly tanned skin which may darken or lighten depending on the amount of time that he spends outdoors under the sun.

He likes to wear tight-fitting clothes that will not hamper his movements. And over those, he usually likes to wear his assigned protective armor. He just likes to be ready at a moments notice to fly his sled and fight Thread.

Personality: A hard man to get to know. He is a soldier first and anything else second. He rarely shows his emotions and Morgen is probably the only person who can make Soldier crack a smile on his scowling face. Well, him and Caesar. He is always in battle-ready mode, always suited up in armor, and his hulking figure is quick to response to any threat against Pern. The scowl on his face is evidence of him either being concerned about doing his job properly or of him thinking deep thoughts. Being a Squadron Leader for the Blue Squad has him thinking up of ways to detect Thread that might have passed through the Squadrons to devour whatever it touched on the ground.

He is very respectul of his elders and will lend them a hand, if asked. He is not a blind follower of orders. If orders were given to him, he will follow them, but only if the order does not entail him harming anyone or any creature. If he dare not hurt a fly, how much more repulsive it would be for him to actually harm another human being. And if you order him to harm another human, you will get on his black list and be shunned by him whenever the two of you encounter each other. Wars are a different matter though, all bets are off during those time, and Soldier will be more than glad to follow orders to the letter. It is this trait of him that had gotten him assigned to the Pern Colonists.

He is a true friend and will back you up no matter what the consequences would be. He despises bullies and will discipline those he gets caught in the act of bullying or pranksters that do mean pranks on others. A hard man to rile, but once riled up, he is slow to simmer down and calm himself. He would need a day of rest and relaxation by himself or with Caesar, in order to not physically harm those that manage to rile him up. He typically spends free time at the lake either swimming in it, or just sitting by the shore and relaxing under a tree.

History: Augustus was born to a family of Soldiers. The Strongarms have been providing the Military with fine soldiers since the Military was established. All his brothers had enlisted in the Military and he did so as soon as he reached the correct enlisting age. The Strongarm was of Roman descent and all boys are given Roman names at their birth, like Maximus, Claudius, Dominor, etc. However, being a Militaristic family, their parents called him and his brothers, Soldier, to denote equality and show that there were no favorites among them. When his father or mother utters the word Soldier, he and his brothers would stop whatever they were doing and stand at attention waiting for orders, usually a chore that needs to be done.

He was the youngest in a family of five. His brothers had already enlisted long ago and stationed at far away worlds, when he finally enlisted for the Military. And because he liked the name Soldier better and Augustus and he is known by his friends in Basic Academy as Soldier, he enlisted in the Military using the name Soldier Strongarm. Only the higher ranked officials in the Military know of his true birth name, Augustus Strongarm, and of course his family. After three years in the Military he was assigned as one of the Military personnel that will accompany the Colonists to Pern. He of course accepted the assignment and said his farewells to his family scattered throughout the galaxy.

On Pern, he was just a hired hand really, often doing errands for those that knew what they wanted to build, where they wanted them to be built, etc. If he wasn't running errands, he was one of the many hands that helped to make the buildings which the Colonists initially used as shelter until the area was mapped and families slowly drifted to stake a claim on lands further and further away from Landing. Being single and not really looking to settle yet, Soldier had stayed in landing being assigned one of the single rooms for single men and women. Life was pretty much simple and routine for him, he was even honored when a geneticist asked for him to stand at a firelizard hatching. The firelizard was a genetic manipulation project that was taken from Dragonets, one of the indigenous species of Pern.

At the firelizard hatching, he was able to successfully Impress a Brown that he named, Caesar, out of contrariness for not liking his own Romanish name. Soldier trained Caesar well with militaristic signs and commands. Caesar was almost like a trained hunting dog by the time the firelizard turned one year old. And then, one fine day, while Soldier was on an errand flying a sled to deliver some medicine to a doctor in need of them, Caesar went ballistic as the Brown firelizard urged Soldier to find a hiding place. The only words project by the firelizard to him was "Danger in Sky". However, the sky was a perfect blue and Soldier had no idea what could be harmful from such a beautiful day.

But Caesar would not be discouraged and did its best in getting Soldier to take shelter in a cave that was thankfully along the way and big enough to fit the sled in. Soldier was about to demand an answer from the quivering Brown firelizard why on earth he had to take shelter when the vegetation about him vanished. Looking back outside the cave, Soldier witnessed the vegetation withering as it was touched by silvery threads. And then, in no time at all, the rest of the place was bare of vegetation. Soldier looked at Caesar and then looked back outside, his life had just been saved by the little firelizard and he will thank whatever fate there was that Caesar was able to force him to take shelter within the cave.

After it seemed safe enough to come out of the cave, Soldier headed for the place of the doctor that had needed the medicine. Unfortunately as he flew the sled over the land, he could see the bare earth and rock where the vegetation was devoured. He didn't know if the doctor was safe but he needed to make sure. Arriving there, he was shocked to see that there was nothing left of the residence of the doctor. With nothing left alive at the place, he returned to Landing. When a call for volunteer sled pilots was announced, he volunteered and chose to be among those that flew low. He wanted to fly close to the ground so that he can be sure to spot any Thread that is trying to devour what remained of the vegetation. And in time, he became the Squadron Leader for the Blue Squad.

After a year of fighting Thread, it was evident that they would soon need to replace their fuel. As an alternative to finding fuel, the Dragon project was initiated and started in order to have an animal based from the Dragonets that were much bigger in size, able to carry a rider, and be as telepathic/empathic as the firelizards had proved to be. When the project was completed, he was asked to be one of those that stood for the hatching of the "Dragons", as the Geneticists were calling them. He agreed, wanting to be able to protect Pern even if he can no longer be a sled pilot.

Description: Caesar is an average Brown firelizard from among his clutchmates. He is a solid chocolate brown firelizard with dark brown almost black splothes on his wingsails. His wingsails are a light tan with dark brown ribbing.

Personality: Caesar is well versed in hand signs and commands that His has taught him to do. He is a very sociable firelizard and is very expressive of his emotions. He understands His very well and try to comfort His when His is uncomfortable with showing or expressing His' emotions.

He is a dark golden bronze, evenly coloured all over except for the golden muzzle that seems to peep out underneath his bronze colouring. Not bulky but not lean either Tiberiuth will grow to be a rather average built bronze, but his length will grow to be a long 18ft.

Hatching Scene: There was much pride and arrogance carried as yet another bronze stepped from his egg, this one seemed effortless, and though he held the awkwardness most newborns had he moved with determination. From the time he hatched he knew who was his and moved gracefully towards the man, there was a bow of his head for the lady whom he liked and then moving around the man he had chosen came to stop at his side and look up at the man speaking with much love and yet it was still stern.

Augustus, Why do you hide your chosen name. It is a strong name a good name. I am Tiberiuth and you will be mine.
