Flying High [Stand Alone]

IC Time: Late Spring
IC Setting: Mid morning with clear blue skies and very warm temperatures. The warmest day on record in spring.


Mikhael had been up since the early morning hours bathing Zharath; after that the bronze was going to do his daily flight around the Caldera to check on the progress of everything whilst Mikhael was preparing for the imminent hatching of the second clutch of eggs.. It would not be long now until they hatched and the older riders would be there to guide them through what they had to do alone with no one but those who had impressed with them.

'I want you to fly with me Mikhael'

The request came from Zharath as Mikhael finished with the last bit of oiling and was packing everything up. Standing up straight Mik turned on his bronze partner, had he truly heard right. Did Zharath want him to fly with him.

"Are you sure?"

Mikhael had to check again to make sure he had heard everything right; his reply from Zharath was a simple bow of his head. Crouching down to make mounting easier Zharath reached out to Mik with his head.

'Come Mikhael. You will not fall; I will always be here'

Mikhael was hesitant as he swung himself up onto Zharath's neck behind the last ridge on his neck, right where his neck met with his chest and shoulders. It was a comfortable spot; secure to. Though Mik had his doubts about that if Zharath turned himself upside down. He trusted him though; that trust was enough to get him on his bronze partners back. Settled; adrenaline already pumping through his veins in anticipation; no amount of piloting could have prepared him for this moment as Zharath sprang into the air and with sharp, powerful strokes of his wings he pushed upward and onward into the sky. They were aloft and out of the Caldera before anyone else had woken; winging it across a sky dappled with fading stars and a rising sun.

Finally Mikhael sucked in air as he realized he had been holding his breath for the take off, there was nothing that could have prepared him for this. It was amazing; his heart raced as he looked down on the Caldera in complete awe. He had never seen anything like this; felt anything like this. Zharath rumbled his approval as he soared over the Caldera and away from it slightly.

Mikhael had lost track of how long they had been flying until Zharath came to land by the beach; all those long flights had built him up for this. The first thing that uttered from Mikhael's lips as his eyes came to rest on the beach Zharath had taken him to was.

"I need to take Addy here one day."

His thoughts were interrupted by a rumble from Zharath who's head had swung up in obvious response to someone contacting him. It was Galateath and after a short conversal with her he turned back to Mikhael.

'We have to return. The eggs are hatching. Galateath and Adrienne are wondering where we are."

Mikhael was back on Zharath's back the moment the word hatching was mentioned; there was little grace to his movements and they were slower than his normal jump into say his sled; but he managed to get himself placed none the less.

'Well come on Zha; we can't leave the ladies waiting now can we.'

As Zharath leapt into the sky once again both promised to keep it secret from the others. This was special and also dangerous as Mikhael almost slipped off on his way back. Tonight he would go through plans for some riding straps; for now he hoped he made to the hatching before it ended...
