The Pieces of Death [Standalone - Alika]

The snow. That was all she could see. All she could think of as she bundled up to brave its cold. Stomping through the remaining calf deep snow outside the complex of homes that she lived in, Alika stared up at the cold walls of snow around her. It made her even more worried for her missing husband. He'd been out during the storm when it started four days ago and he'd never come home. Wrapping her coat even tighter around her form, Alika prayed that Akamu was alright. That he was safe somewhere warm. Perhaps she'd run into him on her search for him this morning. Lika was so glad she'd made sure to leave as early as she could so that Mahina was still asleep. She didn't want her six year old out in this cold so early in the morning.

Hurrying along, Alika squinted against the glare of the early morning sun off the blindingly white snow. A crisp wind struck her cheeks, drawing color to her skin and adding flecks of snow to her hair. Huddling deeper into her coat and scarf, the geneticist drew the fabric of her warm scarf up around her chin and mouth, trying to protect herself from the bitter cold the blizzard left in the Caldera. Akamu, though of Hawai'ian origins like herself, had gone to college up in America's north at Cornell University. He would love this winter, with the beautiful snow, Alika knew, when she found him he'd insist that they take Mahina out for a snowball fight and snow angels. It was a small piece of heaven, he always told his beloved, crisp and clean.

Continuing on her way deeper into the public areas of their compound, Alika saw very few people actually roaming around.
