The Whers

In Caldera the Whers were named such because they were "somewhere" between a dragon and a dragonet. They are small creatures; their skin rougher and not quite as smooth as a dragons hide; their eyes are highly sensitive to the light and they appear to see in something akin to a mix between night vision and heat sense. Their wings are shorter and stumpier than a dragons but able to give them enough lift during the humid summer evenings for short glides. Their sense of smell is excellent and they have been discovered to have a great talent for mining and seeking out pockets of bad gas; which often causes some sudden deaths for many miners trapped. They also appear to come in the same five colours as the Dragons do. They stemmed form the tampering of the 3rd artificial dragon clutch and as such were dumped in a cave and believed to have died until they hatched..

A Wher's bond is different to a dragons; they can have more than one partner in their lifetime; no matter how strong their bond is. Though most will go wild if they loose their handler. They strength of the bond is displayed in the name; for example Evena bonds a gold wher; she could have a weak bond and the wher would be Evsk. A slightly stronger bond would be Evesk. A stronger bond than that would be Evensk; and the strongest bond they could have would be Evenask. Wher's adding an -sk on the end.

Unlike dragons however gender doesn't matter to a Wher; and any gender can bond to any colour. Whers a generally temperamental creatures that do not carry the same restraint as dragons and as such need strong handlers.

Their manner of speak is similar to a small child; ranging from the 3 year old like mind of a green or blue.. to the 6 year old like mind of a gold or bronze. Both Greens and Golds are capable of clutch; and whilst golds have a slightly less chance of producing duds; there is still a very high chance with all the clutches.

Golds will clutch somewhere between 3-8 eggs.
Greens however will clutch only between 1-4 eggs.

In rare cases their may be more eggs that will render the mother incapacitated until clutching; which can result; despite the soft shells of the eggs in tears to the mother or even greater pain than normal as the eggs shift about.

Eggs are generally misshapen and rough to the touch; though they are quite soft upon first being lain.


Gold
The largest; generally standing no higher than a pony at the shoulder. They are generally bulky but some will have a slender figure. They will range from a mottled patchwork of golds to a dull almost brown gold.

Bronze
Second Largest and generally not much smaller than the golds. They are generally bulky though some can have a more slender figure. They will range from a light olive bronze through to a dark rusting bronze.

Brown
Third largest and generally not to much smaller than some of the bronzes. Bulky in figure though some may have a more slender outlook. Can range from a light dusty brown to a dark chocolate brown in colour.

Blue
The smallest of the males; though some will reach towards browns in size. Generally the more slender but they still can be bulky. Will range from a dark dusty blue to a lighter almost white blue.

Green
The smallest of the females and smallest over all. They are the slimmer ones in size; though some will turn out bulkier than others. They will range from a dark forest green to a pale greyish green.
