Description: Chatan is a hefty boy, not fat, just sturdy built. He stands at six foot even and weighs a good one hundred and ninety pounds. His dirty blond hair is cut close and a little spiked. He has many light colored freckles covering his face, shoulders, back, and arms. His eyes are a bright green that stand out against his tan skin. His face is narrow and comes to slim triangular jaw. All around not a bad looking lad.

Personality: Chatan is a rather complex man, or so it seems. Really though he is quite simple to understand after a period of time. The first impressions he gives off is one of quietness, brooding, and a rather all around disinterest in life. He is a bit shy when it comes to meeting new people, but once passed that first awkward stage he opens up a bit. It does take time to truly know Chatan for who he really is thanks to his rather shy and aloof nature. He is a dreamer and deep thinker who on many occasions can be found day dreaming in some secluded area.

Chatan doesn't always like to be alone however. For the most part he loves to be around people, not to be the center of attention but to feel that warm feeling of being included. A true friend he is indeed and loyal to a fault. Once he claims a person a friend he will do whatever is needed to make sure they are happy and taken care of. When it comes to his friends he is trusting to a fault and will believe anything they tell him. So whenever he is betrayed it cuts him deep since to him he would never believe a friend would ever lie or mistreat him. He's not so gullible though that he will instantly forgive when he is hurt. Not at all. In fact he is prone to holding a grudge against the person for a long time.

Chatan is a man of swift action. If there is a chore or some other thing that needs to be done and he is the one to do it, he does it quickly. He'd rather get everything out of the way as soon as possible. That way when he is done he has the rest of the day to himself. So he can also be very impatient at times when he knows there is something he has to do and can't do it for unsuspected reasons. He won't ever outwardly gripe about situations taking to long, that would be childish. Instead he has a habit of crossing his arms and tapping his fingers when he feels impatient or annoyed.

History: Chatan was six whenever the colony ships landed on Pern. His parents had wanted to give him, their only child, a better life away from the troubles of Earth. Since Chatan was so young he really didn't have a say in the matter and honestly didn't really care. To him going to Pern was just an awesome adventure that he would get to experience.

After their arrival on Pern, Chatan quickly realized that there wasn't a whole lot of kids his age to play with. Lucky for him there was one boy, Donal Macaulay, that he became excellent friends with. Life was fun, easy, and exciting in those first few years and then thread fell. He was 14 when that happened and unfortunately his father was one of the victims. Life became harder, but Chatan didn't completely loose hope. When he heard about the dragon program he wanted so badly to be a candidate for it, but he was too young then.

One thing remained all through his young life, his best friend Donal. They are inseparable almost and are usually seen together. They work perfectly together, get along great, and generally agree with each other in most things. There is only one thing that bothers Chatan about his best friend. And that is the fact that Chatan believes he is developing feelings for him that are more than just friendship. These feelings confuse him for Chatan is most certainly straight. He would prefer a woman to a man any day, but for some reason his best friend arouses those types of thoughts in him.

Now that he is a few years older and the future riders have come back in time to help with thread he has gotten his chance. One of the 'search riders', as they are called, told him that he may be a good rider and has given him the chance to stand as a candidate. To top it all, his best friend was searched and is going to stand too.
