Description: Scrawny rather than lightly built, Ashern stands at a mere 5'7" and is quite light. His skin is on the paler side for caucasian, and burns rather than tans depsite the amount of time he spends out of doors. He doesn't scar very easily, and most marks fade soon after healing. As such, he has only a few pale markings across his hands, knees, and feet. His skin is forced to stretch over his bones in some areas, however. He simply doesn't have the flesh to pad his points.

His three-inch hair is full of annoying waves and ripples and is essentially impossible to keep straight. A very dark brown with faint brassy highlights under strong sunlight, it more often appears to be nearer the label of 'black.' If examined carefully enough, though, it is the same shade as his eyes. The latter simply appear to be lighter and more strongly coloured. Still, he doesn't usually care if someone thinks it is brown or black. It is what it is, and he's cool with that.

Ashern's face is quite long, with a rounded chin, fairly low but wide cheekbones and a slightly broad nose. His eyebrows tend to fade after their initial bushiness, and are more of a shadow trailing the bone. Due to the structure of his face, his eyes can seem a bit sunken from time to time, and especially if light strikes his face from above. His forehead is rather square, to top things off, and rarely covered completely by his unruly hair.

Personality: The simplest way to describe Ashern is laid-back. He seems to have absolutely no temper whatsoever, doesn't get irritated, has never been known to be impatient, and just smiles benignly at insults. Such lack of annoyance has been known to infuriate others, but they usually decide he's an idiot who isn't worth their while. The other possible reason would the very, very large shadow of his father. Whatever the cause, Ashern just shrugs and gets on with his work. The problems of others do not concern him though he is plenty sympathetic, and he doesn't mind what others think of him. He is content with himself.

To go hand-in-hand with his essential nature, Ashern is quite optimistic. He figures that there is a silver lining to everything - even Thread. That particular lining would be the dragons. For all of their lack of existence for the vast majority of his life, he finds the large creatures a highly interesting enigma and brilliant solution to a puzzle. It wasn't a solution he would have thought of on his own, but then again, he is no puzzle master. Still, despite never getting around to finding a firelizard or dragonet for himself, there is a special place in his heart for all things winged and pretty.

As might be expected, Ashern is calm, but he is also reliable. Steady and dedicated, he gets whatever work has been set out for him done and then sorts out what needs to be done next. He doesn't procrastinate, even for chores that he despises, for prolonging the problem will not make it go away. In many instances, that will make it worse. As bad as it might be, it could still be worse. It might be able to be better, but remember: it could be worse. From there, the best way to deal with that is to avoid thinking about how it could be worse.

History: Ashern was born on old Terra. He certainly didn't expect to grow up in another solar system. Still, his parents (both vets) signed up to take the ship to Pern and help settle it, and so he and his little sister tagged along. Few would give up on that sort of adventure. He wasn't too fond of sleeping for the entire trip, but had to admit that even staring into space for hours on end would get boring after a while. By the time he and his family were woken, they were orbiting their new jewel of a home.

Of course, not being of immediately essential services, they had to wait around before taking their last shuttle ride down to the surface. Ashern met a few other kids his age in the same situation, though they all ended up in fairly different parts of the colony and were too busy to see each other for more than their 'work'. Once settled, Ashern was quick to explore and bring back samples of whatever he could find so that it could be examined and catalogued.

As the years passed, Ashern's family grew. Two more sisters were born, and by the eighth year after Landing, he had three brothers. Adoring of his younger siblings, he often volunteered at the creche as he grew old enough to care for the children properly. His parents began training him in their own craft, and he fell in love with a second area. Torn between childcare and veterinary arts, he eventually decided that he could (would) have his own children. He began his studies full-board.

He was roughly eighteen when Thread fell. His world was heaved upside down and shattered. He himself was not scored, though he, like so many others, heard the screams of those who were not so lucky. At the animal toll, he began to branch into a slightly different direction. Breeding. With the added load to his work, he temporarily became shut off from the outside world. It spared him much of that outer panic, fortunately, and he came out with a solid grasp on the basic theories required.

When his parents and so much of Landing moved, he, of course, followed. His skills, lesser than those of his parents but still useful, would be needed wherever he went. With the spreading word of that which might be Pern's salvation, he had an ulterior motive as well. Aye, he had never Impressed an endearing (if occasionally patience-testing) dragonet or firelizard, but he still liked the little beasties and loved the idea of larger ones, to bear riders and rise after Thread. Eh, anyone can be a romantic at heart. While he did not Impress at the first Hatching - he was busy helping out with a difficult equine birth and could not be spared - he hopes to be able to at least watch the hatching of the second 'clutch'.

Description: He's quite tiny for a bronze, as well as very skinny and slender-looking; almost feminine in his appearance. His hide is an even, middling shade of bronze but for two light golden rings around his head knobs. These actually look a little like christmas lights, should anyone care to make the connection. They are actually the source of his name; otherwise lacking in names, Ash looked at the little 'lights' on his head and named the bronze Headlight.

Personality: 'Whatwhatwhat?! Mineminemine!' tends to describe Headlight rather well. He has to have absolutely everything and tries to claim whatever he doesn't have. Including people. And their pets. And he has a hoard of random bits small enough for him to bring home. Of course, with his considerable scatter-brain tendancies, that hoard is hidden away in nooks and crannies and on shelves. He often forgets where he was putting things last and just finds a new place, and is overjoyed whenever he finds an old stash. He is easily distracted and has also been known to flutter back and forth in a room, obviously looking for something [which is usually in plain sight].

Description: A small bronze, this bronze is the color of the darkest bronze with a coppery red tinge on his hide. He has a few stripes of a goldenrod hue starting from the tip of his head to the end of his neck. Then the stripes are once more seen covering his entire tail. His wing sails are a coppery bronze tinged in green. He will grow to an even 16ft.
