Canons or Non Canons that is the question..

Now you all know about Avoneth being a non canon colour; she was a little well leeway given. Now I want to pose you this question and feel free to elaborate on your answer using the form below after voting in the Poll..

Non Canons: Yes

If Yes;

• Colour Suggestion: Eh, I like blacks and whites. :]
  
• Why: I like black and white because they can be easily explained, and they aren't just random, OMG look how did that happen? colors. That's my only problem with some non canon color sites... They aren't explained. Was it a plague that messed with the DNA of the mother & thus altered the eggs? Is there some sort of chemical imbalance, like with Avoneth? Or, are the dragons evolving to preserve their species from some sort of attack? I like non-canons because they add variety to the game, but just as long as they're explained. I think they should be reasoned, not just random.

Non Canons: No
If No:

• Why not? I was very glad that this site had only canon colors, and assumed it would stay that way....I do a lot of semi-canon/non-canon sites, and I was kind of thirsting for one with jsut the normal colors. I, like Rye, don't mind sports as long as they're not too out there/can be explained...but I just kind of want to stay with only the normal colors (plus Avoneth)...as a site with basically the traditional colors is refreshing after so many noncanon ones
  
• Should Avoneth be one of a kind? No; if she clutches, I think she should breed a very few more of her own kind. Since we have her (and I really don't mind that we do), I think it's only fair to allow others the rare treat of a crimson every once in a while. I just don't really want any new colors.

Non Canons: No

If No:

• Why not? I completely agree with Charm. I came on here excited to roleplay on a site that had an authentic feel to it, being a First Pass site and all. Sure, sports are great if they're explained, but they're also meant to be extraordinarily rare. Plus when Avoneth came forward with the other 2nd Interval riders it was explained that some time during the 2nd Pass crimsons had evolved and I think that it would make no sense to contradict that by suddenly creating a few sport colors in this Pass.
  
• Should Avoneth be one of a kind? not necessarily; I also agree with Charm about Avvy's babies. She has the genetic capability and characteristics of producing more crimsons, which means that yes, if she has a particularly good/strong/long Flight, then there could be one crimson egg, the way gold eggs typically appear from a Flight between to dragons that have good raport. For the same reason, I think that when/if Avvy does Rise most of her clutches will not contain a crimson. Only when a player with a character that would suit and deserves the crimson, will there be a possibility of having a crimson hatchling. Logistically, the plan I've enumerated makes the most sense to me. And of course her crimson offspring won't be infertile, they will just produce crimsons rarely, like their mother.

Non Canons: No

If No:

• Why not? Of course everything that Ari and Charm said I agree with. There isn't a lot of canon rp sites on proboards, forumotion, etc.. that are friendly to people who are new to the rp world. I know the first rp site I joined was canon, but there were so many rules and everything had to be just like so, and you had to be this literate...I could go on. Basically it got to be no fun having to keep everything correct. This site is refreshing because it isn't like that, but has the feeling of a true Anne McCaffrey Pern. I think if we started having a bunch of non-canon colors we'd loose that feeling.
  
• Should Avoneth be one of a kind? Honestly I'm torn on this. I love Avoneth, she's awesome. However there comes a point where even if she did have a lot of sport babies it would make us non-canon. On the other hand I also like the thrill of having a rare baby every now and then. So maybe every now and then, very few and far between might I add, there could be a special baby made for a special candidate whose owner deserves it. As long as it makes sense though, like white or black. No polka dotted babies pwease.

You all know right that if we did add one or two more non canons that they would be rare.. I'm not the kind of person to over populate with non canons; also they would all be plausibly explained..

Like if you go see our list of Dragon colours you'll find Crimson's explained. Avoneth was not a "evolved colour" and mutations can pop up in any pass; because there is a big gap between the 2nd Interval and the 1st pass anything can happen. Especially when combining the genetics of the future dragons and first pass dragons all kinds of things could happen.. Remember everything has a marker gene for something and it just needs the right trigger or counterpart to activate it.

After all everyone remembers Airliath right... she wasn't exactly normal for a dragon; she hatched with a mind that was not as programed by the geneticists.. Remember too; no experiment is perfect; there are bound to be screw ups; throw backs and even other colours could appear.

Every non canon dragon I write has a plausible genetic background; so you won't need to worry about if they aren't plausible enough..

Also White and Black are so over used.. and the only way to describe them is by one being a hyper-pigmentation [darkening of the skin in patches or whole] or hypo-pigmentation [lightening of the skin in patches or whole].


So feel free to think about it further.. and feel free to change your answers or even keep your answers.. Just know that what ever you choose we will never be over populated by non canons and they would be a rarest of rare treat.

If No:

• Why not? A lot of the same reasons given above. I came to Chronicles to enjoy canon colors for once and while I don't mind Avoneth I hate non-canons that don't have a reason behind them. Also, I agree with Iski that White and Black are WAY overused. If we DO go for any non canons besides Avoneth, then it should be one that's unique and has a good reason for being what it is.
